Testing Requirements for "The Complete Online Course in Personal Property Appraising"

Lesson Quizzes

"Open-book" Lesson quizzes will be administered periodically throughout the course to help us ensure that you are comprehending the material as you proceed. You are allowed an unlimited number of attempts at the Lesson quizzes, so, if you miss a question, you will have an opportunity to try again. You can also return to the Quizzes at a later time for review prior to taking the two course exams. Be sure to read "Guide to taking lesson quizzes" which you will find in Lesson 1.

Course Examinations

After completing Lesson 5 you will make arrangements to have the first exam (100 T/F and multiple-choice questions) emailed (in .pdf format) to and proctored by your chosen proctor. There will also be a second exam at the end of the course covering material from Lessons 6 through 11. (Neither Lesson 12 nor Lesson 13 are testable.) The proctor is to return the exam to Appraisal Course Associates by regular mail for grading.

Proctors can be public, private or military librarians; counselors at independent learning centers such as Sylvan Learning; public or private high schools counselors; counselors at military base testing centers; and counselors in public or private secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, colleges and universities.

The administration fee for each exam is $75.

See Exam Instruction and Registration Form.

What do the Two Locally-Proctored Exams Cover?

First Exam: The first exam covers material from Lessons 1 through Lesson 5, including the topics addressed in each of these Lesson quizzes. If you understand the Lesson quiz questions, you should do well on the First Exam.

Second Exam: The second exam covers material from Lessons 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11 including the topics addressed in each of their respective Lesson quizzes.

  • Lesson 7: Lesson 7 is a very comprehensive discussion of USPAP including several reading assignments from USPAP. The second exam does not cover material from the Lesson 7 reading assignments. However, the second exam does cover:
    • USPAP issues discussed throughout this course outside of Lesson 7 (but excluding the readings taken directly from the USPAP manual).
    • Content of the Task Review Questions which follow each Task in Lesson 7. These questions address important USPAP issues with which you should be familiar.
  • Lesson 12 & 13: The second exam does not cover material included in Lesson 12 The Professional Appraisal Practice. Lesson 12 addresses many topics that cover personal business decisions made by the individual appraiser. Because Lesson 12 covers topics that are so flexible in everyday application, its material is not included within the second exam. Nor does the second exam include material covered in Lesson 13 Legal Issues of Interest to the Appraiser. It is the intent of Lesson 13 to merely provide a brief introduction to important legal issues with which the appraisers should be aware and conversant.

Final Project
Upon successful completion of all Lessons and requisite course examinations, the student is required to submit a sample self-contained appraisal report for review.
