The ACA Online USPAP Update Course (2014 version) has been designed to update the personal property appraiser regarding the most recent USPAP changes. The course was developed by appraiser William M. Novotny, ISA AM, GCA, a current Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) Certified National USPAP instructor, with the assistance of Appraisal Course Associates (ACA) course developer and certified appraiser, David J. Maloney, Jr., AOA AM.

The developers of this course have ensured that it has been developed in accordance with The Appraisal Foundation's Course Approval Program (CAP) announcements, directives, and learning and course objectives. As a result, this course has been developed so that it is consistent with, comparable to, and even exceeds the content of The Appraisal Foundation's 7-hour National USPAP Update Course. In addition, this ACA course follows the topic order and subject matter of The Appraisal Foundation's 7-hour National USPAP Update Course Student Manual.

The primary differences between The Appraisal Foundation's 7-hour National USPAP Update Course and ACA's online USPAP update courses are that:

  • ACA's courses have a personal property focus instead of a real property focus, and
  • The ACA course requires the student to answer periodic self-assessed questions to ensure that online students have read and are comprehending the material.

ACA's online courses make use of reading assignments, Lessons, a narrated Power Point welcoming message presentation, real world personal property examples, and case studies that address important and sometimes complex issues in order to help students better understand and apply USPAP to their daily personal property appraisal practice.

Note: to avoid confusion with its 7-hour National USPAP Update Course, The Appraisal Foundation does not permit its own 7-hour National USPAP Update Course Student Manual to be used as a course manual for any online offering; however, the manual does contain excellent content despite its real property focus and, as a reference, is recommended reading for students of this course. It can be purchased directly from The Appraisal Foundation.

Note that ACA's online USPAP update courses are designed to meet the needs of personal property appraisers by making use of personal property related examples and discussion topics. As a result, this course does not meet state licensing or certification requirements for real property appraisers. Real property appraisers who need an update course for licensing, certification or professional society credentialing purposes should seek and attend a USPAP Update Course approved by their state licensing regulatory agency.
