Welcome

Appraisal Course Associates (ACA) is a partnership between Bill Novotny, ISA AM, GCA and Dave Maloney, AOA CM established to provide the most comprehensive personal property valuation theory, principles, methodology, report writing and standards course available in a brief six-day setting. This course is designed for the personal property appraiser seeking a comprehensive review of or introduction to core valuation principles and methodology, including the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).

ACA is now offering:

Appraising Personal Property: A Core Course in Valuation Studies Featuring USPAP

(USPAP-only: Want to attend only the 2-day USPAP portion of this course or a 1-day USPAP update? Click here to learn how.)

In this unique on-site, six-day comprehensive course, Certified Appraiser and veteran appraisal course writer and instructor Dave Maloney, AOA CM teaches the principles and methodology of personal property appraising including terminology, valuation theory, governmental regulations, ethical and appraisal report writing standards, sample appraisal wording and much more including the day-to-day details of running an appraisal practice.

The curriculum also includes the National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice Course presented by Nationally Certified USPAP Instructor, Bill Novotny, ISA AM. This tested course will fulfill the 15-hour requirement as established by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation and will familiarize the student with the only nationally-recognized appraisal standard for appraisers.

This Unique Course Combines it All

Never before has a complete course in personal property appraising been combined with an offering of the 15-hour National USPAP Course. Graduates will learn not only the theory, principles and methodology of professional personal property appraising, but they will also obtain an education in USPAP, the national standard promulgated by The Appraisal Foundation of Washington, DC and now considered mandatory training for the professional personal property appraiser.

Appraisers who are currently members of a professional personal property association or society that requires attending the National USPAP Course can fulfill that requirement through this course offering. Other professionals such as insurance or CPPC adjusters, moving company claims offices, military transportation offices, repair personnel, lawyers, accountants, bankers, fiduciaries, or others who are not appraisers but who have a tangential interest in personal property appraisals and standards would also benefit from attending this course.

Now Available in One Six-Day Course Offering

It can cost thousands of dollars and take many months attending appraisal courses offered piecemeal and at random times in different locations to learn the basics of appraising. The Appraisal Course Associates six-day, single location, USPAP-centric course will accomplish much the same at a lower cost and with a minimal time requirement.

Potential students with extensive product and market knowledge such as antique dealers, auctioneers and estate liquidators will benefit greatly from taking the ACA course. CPPC repair companies that value depreciating and ordinary properties for the moving and storage industry will benefit by understanding the issues that must be considered in any valuation assignment. Such professionals who frequently appraise without proper training in appraisal theory, methods and standards are at great risk of liability and cannot properly serve the public or their clients unless they have proper appraisal training. Beginning appraisers who have adequate product and market knowledge and experience will develop their appraisal competence and be in a position to develop and report credible value opinions.

The ACA six-day course offering will help enhance appraisal skills and help the appraiser meet current USPAP requirements with which appraisers must comply. Compliance with USPAP helps ensure credibility, and proper performance helps protect the appraiser from malpractice liability and the public from shoddy appraisals.

Frequent users of appraisal services such as adjusters, bankers, lawyers, accountants and fiduciaries will also greatly benefit from the ACA course offering by providing the necessary knowledge to understand the appraisal process and to judge the merits or shortcomings of appraisal reports.

New IRS regulations raise the bar for the requirements for those doing Federally related appraisals such as for donation or estate purposes. Specifically, the IRS now requires a designation from a recognized professional appraisal association OR a minimum education and experience. This course helps you meet these new requirements by satisfying certain educational requirements offered by associations which offer designations as a personal property appraiser.
