Appraisers are often retained to offer appraisals and appraisal-related services during civil litigation such as cases involving damage claims, malpractice, divorce, or fraud. Some appraisers choose to become involved with what is referred to as appraisal, valuation litigation support services. Included is not only the preparation of appraisal reports but also a wide range of pretrial and trial services designed to prepare lawyers to try a case including consulting with attorneys, pretrial deposition, case and document review, critiquing the opposition, and expert witness testimony during trial.
